City of HCM (VNA) – The Japanese Film Festival 2022 in Vietnam by the
Japan Foundation Center opens online February 14-28.

The event showcases 20 feature films in different genres including drama, live action, anime, musical, comedy, and romance.

Highlight films include The Floating Castle, Under The Open Sky, Time of Eve, The Movie, Bread of Happiness, Ozland and Rashomon.

The historical film The Floating Castle, produced in 2012, features directors Shinji Higuchi and Isshin Inudo.

It tells the stories of Japanese soldiers and people during the Japanese Civil War from 1868 to 1869.

The film highlights Japanese history and culture through the two forces of the ruling Tokugawa shogunate and the warriors seeking to return political power to the imperial court.

Produced in 2021, Under the Open Sky by director Miwa Nishikawa is a drama about the life of a member of the Yakuza, a mafia-like criminal organization in Japan, who decides to leave his group for a new life.

The organizer hopes the film festival will showcase a taste of the Japanese film industry as well as the country’s history, culture and way of life.
